Answers to the most common bean questions

If you’re unsure what to order, these quick answers should help you narrow things down and pick a bag with confidence.

What grind size should I choose for my brewer?

Choose whole bean if you grind at home, or select a grind matched to your brewer. Use coarse for French press, medium for drip and pour-over, fine for espresso, and extra fine only if your setup calls for it. If you're unsure, whole bean is the safest choice and gives you the most control.

How fresh are the beans when they ship?

We package coffee shortly after roasting and ship it fresh so it has time to rest during transit. Each bag lists the roast date, which helps you plan the best brew window. Most coffees are at their sweetest after a brief rest, especially espresso.

Which coffee is best for espresso at home?

Start with Oakline Espresso Blend if you want something dependable and milk-friendly. If you prefer a brighter, more layered shot, a medium roast seasonal lot can also work beautifully. We recommend medium to medium-fine espresso grind and a small tuning adjustment once the bag opens.

How often do the seasonal coffees change?

Seasonal offerings change as fresh lots arrive, which usually means a few times throughout the year. Some coffees stay long enough to become favorites, while others rotate out when they're sold through. If you love a particular lot, it’s worth ordering before it disappears.
